Our Story

The Midrand Chess Club stands out for its commitment to providing a nurturing environment where young talents can blossom and minds can sharpen.

About Us:
Founded in November 2013, the Midrand Chess Club, an affiliate of MCR (Midrand Chess and Recreational Foundation), began its journey with the invaluable support of Johannesburg Metro Chess (JHB METRO) President Shanks Naidoo. Under his guidance, we swiftly integrated into JHB METRO and hosted numerous internal and JHB METRO-rated tournaments, establishing ourselves as a vibrant hub for chess enthusiasts in Midrand.
Originally based at the Midrand Library, our club experienced rapid growth, necessitating a move to a larger venue. In late 2014, we found our home at Halfway House Primary School, where our dedicated members gather every Saturday afternoon to practice and compete.
Our club is renowned for its strong focus on youth development, despite attracting many skilled adult players. Our young members have excelled in JHB Metro tournaments, representing our region at the highest levels of competition, showcasing their talent and dedication to the game of chess.
